As part of our Best in Heritage Award for our work at Glasnevin Cemetery, Martello Media were invited to exhibit at this year’s Exponatec Trade Fair in Cologne. We felt privileged to exhibit our work alongside the other selected winners including The Riverside Museum, Scotland. John Greene and Dr Peter Harbison of Glasnevin Cemetery Trust joined us at our stand and were there to meet and greet visitors to the show.
We designed a visually striking exhibition stand, which showed off the best of our design at Glasnevin. Working closely with Jim O’Brien and his team at Display Contracts we managed to capture the magic of Glasnevin and bring it to Cologne – with the help of some planes, trains and automobiles! Large format prints of interior and exterior shots of the Museum attracted many visitors who were intrigued to know why we were featuring a cemetery at our trade stand. We welcomed visitors to engage in a live tour of the Museum and Graveyard with some of the Cemetery’s most knowledgeable guides. Through a live video link back to Dublin from Cologne, visitors to our stand at Exponatec could explore the cemetery, ask questions and engage in first person interpretation. It didn’t take visitors long to understand why Glasnevin Cemetery is such a unique and prestigious project worthy of its Best in Heritage accolade.
Mark Leslie, Rob Molenaar, and Heather Dowling, along with our creative director Peter Whittaker on-site in Glasnevin, engaged with Exponatec visitors over the three day fair and shared in conversation with many of our fellow exhibitors. It wasn’t all work and no play – we each had the opportunity to explore some of Cologne’s wonderful cultural heritage including the Cathedral and The Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum.
Our experience at Exponatec was a wonderful opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new contacts. By the standard of our fellow exhibitors it was clear that the museums and heritage sector is an evolving and exciting field and one that we are delighted to continue to contribute to in new and innovative ways.
